Three to four times as many minerals fluoresce under Short Wave UV as under Long Wave UV. So Short Wave torches are important when looking for, and looking at fluorescent minerals and gems. SW and MW LEDs are relatively new, and are more expensive and less powerful than LW LEDs, but as further development takes place they will become cheaper and more powerful. LED UV torches are more convenient than tube-based lamps which are larger and more cumbersome.
Our new FS12 Short Wave UV torch is amazingly powerful, and is great for field use. For example, it is being used by several mining companies looking for scheelite. A Short Wave torch this powerful has been hoped for for many years … and now we have it!
