SHORT WAVE & LONG WAVE UV DISPLAY LAMPS

At last we can offer two professionally manufactured UV Display Lamps: FSD (Short Wave) and FLD (long wave). Both use LEDs, not tubes. LEDs produce heat, so they are fan cooled.
These LED UV LAMPS are ideal for showing off your fluorescent specimens. They replace older tube-based lamps and so are more reliable, needing virtually no maintenance.
They make it possible for you to make your own Display Cabinet – no electronic expertise needed.

FSD 255nm SHORT WAVE UV DISPLAY LAMP

Rated at 36W, 240V.    36 Short Wave LEDs in 3 rows of 12.
This lamp’s LEDs emit very little visible light, so the lamp is not filtered. This is a compromise, but the cost of adding a filter would more than double the price. The fluorescence colours are not affected, but there is a slight difference in the luminosity of the specimens. However, it is minimal (I’ve tried it). Judge for yourself in the videos below.

The FSD UV Display Lamp can light a small Short Wave display with height 45cm high and base 45cm wide x 30cm. If you increase the height you can increase the base size, but fluorescence will get dimmer the further your rocks get from the lamp. By using two lamps you can double the width or depth of the display, but the height needs to stay around 45cm. See here for full details of how to make your own display cabinet.

The FSD UV Display Lamp can be used in the field with a battery and small 240V inverter.

The FSD Lamp comes with UV-blocking glasses. Viewing rocks with the lamp for a few minutes without the glasses is OK, but for longer viewing they should be used.

The video shows how UV blocking glasses work. No UV* gets through to make the rock glow, so no UV gets through to your eyes. The torch is SW (FS12). The rock is calcite from Franklin NJ USA.

*The glasses block >99% of UV.

Price for FSD KIT (Lamp & Glasses): $490 + postage.

FLD 365nm LONG WAVE DISPLAY LAMP

Rated at 180W, 240V. 36 Long Wave LEDs in 3 rows of 12.

The FLD 365nm LW Display Lamp is in the same body as the SW lamp pictured above. The LW LEDs do make some visible light, so this LW display lamp is filtered.

It is very powerful and can light a large area. It can be used in a fluorescent mineral display box, or to light loose specimens.

It can also be used in the field with a battery and inverter to find long wave minerals such as spodumene.

It is not supplied with UV-blocking glasses which can be purchased separately.

Price for FLD Long Wave Display Lamp: $370 + Postage.
