Australia is so big that nearly everything is a long way from everything else. Therefore known fluorescence sites are usually a long way apart, but the more people go looking for and finding them, the closer they will get to each other. Collecting areas I have found are near Armidale and Tenterfield in Northern NSW, near Dunnedoo and Bathurst in Central NSW, in and around Broken Hill in far Western NSW, and several remote and widely separated places in South Australia. There’s a lot more to look at yet!
My major collecting trips usually last 6 to 10 weeks, and they happen once a year. From home to the place where most of my specimens come from is over 2000 km (1250 miles), but I enjoy the remoteness and solitude of the Outback hunting grounds.
Here are some of the places I have (or haven’t) found fluorescence.
NOTE: Most of the collecting places featured in these photos require the permission of the relevant landholder to visit. Even if a station is huge (which many of them are), you can’t just go onto someone’s property without first talking to them and establishing your bona fides.
