Mid Wave UV torches are for the serious collector. Very few minerals fluoresce only under Mid Wave UV light, but some fluoresce more brightly or in a different colour under mid wave UV light than they do under short wave or long wave UV lights. most people start with Short and/or Long Wave, and get a Mid Wave torch/lamp later. Some examples of minerals that will fluoresce brighter or a different colour with a mid wave UV flashlight: Some calcites, agrellite, some apatites and fluorapatites are brighter under Mid Wave. Willemite can fluoresce bright yellow under Mid Wave UV instead of the usual green under Short Wave.
