It takes one battery. The FL2 Kit gives you the FL2 filtered torch, two protected 18650 batteries, a 2-slot intelligent charger and a basic plastic carry case. When you are out searching for fluorescent minerals it has a range of up to 5 metres depending on how fluorescent the minerals are. And with my compliments you get 6 small but bright long wave specimens including a little opal chip from Lightning Ridge in NSW.
